Dominican
Republic advances to semi final phase
TIJUANA, Mexico, July 8, 2010 – Dominican Republic advanced to
the semifinal round of the NORCECA Women’s Junior Volleyball
Championship after scoring one convincing straight-sets (25-22,
25-18, 25-22) victory over Canada on Thursday. The winners put a
lot of pressure on the Canadian side with their strong and well
placed serves.
One again Ana Yorkira Binet, the scoring leader of the
tournament, led Dominican Republic with 17 points and now has 60
points in three matches. Candida Arias and Alicia Moreno charted
10 apiece for the winners. Meaghan Robertson topped Canada with
12 points.
“The difference today was the job by our middle players who
contributed in the attack and we didn’t have to go to the
corners all the time,” Dominican Republic’s Coach Wagner Pacheco
said. “They played well focused and served very well.”
“Everyone contributed to the victory and played with a lot of
concentration,” Dominican Captain Yennifer Ramirez said. “I am
happy about advancing to the semi finals.”
